Morrisville,VT
Marie "Florida" LaCourse (Chartier), 94, died peacefully Sunday May 4, 2014, at Copley Hospital surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born November 12, 1919 in Beebe, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of Edouard and Helene (Seguin) Chartier. She moved to Vermont as small child and grew up in Barre Town where she attended local schools.
On October 30, 1937, she married Raymond LaCourse. They made their home in Berlin where she worked as a bartender/waitress for many years. After retirement, she spent the next 30 years helping to raise most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She resided in Morrisville for the past 12 years with her daughter, sharing a home across from Lake Lamoille where she enjoyed landscaping and watching all the activities and wildlife on the water. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary at both of the Montpelier and Morrisville Posts as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Montpelier.
To all that knew her, "Maw" was truly the matriarch of her family of 5 generations. She was healthy and active all of her 94 years attending family events and always ready to sit down and enjoy a "cold drink" with her grandchildren. She enjoyed going for Sunday drives – driving till the age of 89, trips to ME, watching her family compete in sports and gymkhanas. She also enjoyed listening to music and watching her cowboy and Survivor shows.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Joyce Garfield and her husband Frank, of Wildwood, FL, June Picard and her husband James, of Middlesex, Debra Utton of Morrisville. She leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren, with whom she had a special relationship with each one of them. She also leaves behind her pets, "Remmie", "Kat Kat", extended family and special friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, 3 daughters and was the last surviving sibling of 10.
Maw was a very special lady to her family and she will be remembered for her feisty stubbornness and endless amount of love that she shared to the very end.
Till we meet again woman, "see ya"!
Per Maw's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service and balloon release will be held at the Berlin Corners Cemetery on May 17, 2014 at 12:00, followed by a reception at the VFW post #792 in Montpelier.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the North Country Animal League or Lamoille Home Health and Hospice.
