Montpelier, VT-
Maria Nieves (Cano) Bond, 86, of Dunpatrick Circle, Montpelier passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 19th 2010 with her beloved husband Bob and daughters Lisa and Shari by her side. "Ivis" was born in Websterville May 17, 1924 one of seven children born to Nieves and Jacinto Cano.
Ivis graduated Montpelier schools and began her career with AT&T as a switchboard operator and later supervisor for New England Telephone. She met her husband-to-be Bob at the Wayside Restaurant in Berlin. They wed at St. Augustine's Church May 29, 1954. In 1955 Ivis and Bob left Vermont to begin a new life in Tucson, Arizona where her eldest daughters, Linda and Shari, were born. After returning to Vermont in 1964, to be near family whom she missed dearly, her youngest daughter Lisa arrived.
Ivis and Bob traveled extensively, spending several months overseas with their daughter Linda and son-in-law Mark while Mark was stationed in Germany in the Army. During this trip, Ivis was thrilled to be able to visit Santander, Spain where her parents were born. Proud of her Spanish heritage, she loved speaking her first language with her beloved siblings and cousins.
In 1975 Ivis and Bob purchased their home at One Dunpatrick Circle where they resided for thirty-five years. Her daughter Lisa lovingly cared for her the last three and a half years until she entered Berlin Health and Rehab in September. Ivis fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Sadly, Ivis leaves behind her husband Bob and daughter Lisa of Montpelier, daughter Shari Bach of Barre, daughter Linda Visbeck and her husband Mark of Springfield, Virginia. Five grandchildren: William Visbeck, Patrick Visbeck, James Visbeck all of Springfield, Virginia, Vanessa Bach of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mariah Bach and her fiancé Robert Keene of Barre. Sister Concha Buzzi and her husband Dario and cousin Angie Zorzi, reside in Montpelier. Ivis also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ivis was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Telephone Pioneeers. She was predeceased by brothers Jacinto Cano, Louis Cano, Victor Cano, Stephen Cano and sister Vicenta Bordas.
