Montpelier, VT Marguerite (Geta) Tomasi On Sunday, September 28, 2008, our beloved Aunt, Great Aunt, and Great-Great Aunt, Marguerite (Geta) Dorothy Agnes Theresa Tomasi, passed from this life. Geta was one of six children born to Bartolomew and Margherita (Contratto) Tomasi, who had come to Montpelier from Locano, Italy, just prior to 1900. She was born on August 24, 1911, and attended St. Michael's Schools in Montpelier. She graduated from the DeGoesbriand School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. For over 55 years, she served as the nurse and receptionist for the office of her brother, Dr. Ernest P. Tomasi. In her younger days, she loved to play bingo, search the woods for mushrooms with her dog, relax at her relatives' camps in Chelsea and Berlin, and visit with all the regulars at Tomasi's Store on Main Street. Painting was one of her favorite hobbies. She was thrilled to be asked to paint the cover scene for her sister's book entitled, Deep Grow the Roots. That same year, she created a remarkable oil-on-canvass portrait of her sister, Mari that hangs proudly in her home. She enjoyed creating paintings on cast iron irons and glassware. She and Mari enjoyed gardening together, nurturing their grapevines and making grape jelly. Throughout her long life, she was a devoted Aunt to all her many nephews and nieces and was an active participant in their lives and activities. She enjoyed attending sporting events, holiday feasts, concerts, weddings, christenings and birthdays. Her good nature, love of animals, and great sense of humor made her most welcome wherever she traveled. She was able to live out the last of her 97 years in her home due to the efforts of many fine and devoted nurses, care givers, and friends, and her housemate, Jane Anderson. Their loving attitudes and caring ways were daily blessings to Geta. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Andrew, Bert, and Ernest, and sisters Jenni and Mari. She leaves behind her six nieces and nephews: Linda T. Babic and husband Tom; Ernest "Tom" Tomasi; Jon Tomasi; Barbara Tomasi-Gay and husband Bill; Peter Tomasi and wife Donna; Tim Tomasi and wife Vivian. Great nieces and nephews include: Kevin & Kristin Babic & daughter Warner; Kris Babic and fiancée Sarah Menard; David and Katie Hilferty Babic; Cassie Babic & children Austin & Madison; Scott & Tina Tomasi & daughters Aimee & Cianna; Sarah Rice and husband Nathan; Lauren & Evan Tomasi; Travis Williams & Jessie Gay; Eric, Andria, J.P., Drew, Allena, Tory & son Zachary Tomasi; Molly Irish and son Shane; Michael, Phillip, and Ryan Tomasi; Devon, Isabel and Jason Tomasi. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 2, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Augustine's Church, in Montpelier.
