Margaret Farmer Whitcomb, 85, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Woodridge Nursing Home surrounded by family. Born Margaret Elizabeth Farmer on December 9, 1921, in Shrewsbury, Vermont. She was the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Stafford) Farmer. A long time resident of Montpelier, she owned and operated Brick Haven Beauty Salon at 134 State Street for many years, currently the Capital Region Visitors Center. She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, until moving to Eustis, Florida and later to Tavares, Florida. In March 2005 she decided to move back to Montpelier to be closer to family and friends, and took up residence at Westview Meadows until August of 2006. Margaret had a great sense of humor and enjoyed jokes and card games with her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Kerin Houle, son-in-law, Rene and grandchildren, Kimberly and Jonathan of Montpelier, VT. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace L. Whitcomb (Wally) who passed away in 1991. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Irene Walker, Carrie May Farmer; brother, Walter Edward Farmer and good friends Ellen and Charles Kerin. On Tuesday, November 27, 2007 a memorial service celebrating Margaret's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT. Calling hours will start at 10:00 a.m. and a committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Berlin Corners Cemetery in the spring.
