Margaret S. Hoare, 93, died peacefully on January 1, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Raleigh, NC. She was a long time Montpelier resident having lived most recently at 155 Main St.
She was born April 24, 1916 in Barre, VT the daughter of Alfred & Catherine (Littlejohn) Simpson. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1934.
Upon graduation she worked for the State of Vermont Dept. of Liquor Control and Motor Vehicle Dept. In 1938 she married Samuel E. Hoare of Montpelier and together they ran the family farm at the present Two Rivers Center on Home Farm Way. Later she took classes at Community College of Vermont and became a library assistant at the Eliot Pratt Center at Goddard College, a job that she truly loved. She had always enjoyed reading and independent thinking, so she found her niche interacting with students and cataloging their senior studies in addition to taking classes there.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Kathy Duprey of Raleigh, NC; five sons, David of Raleigh, NC; Edwin of Williamstown, VT; Steven of Jensen Beach, Florida; Frank and Mathew of Montpelier; two grandchildren, Megan (Jay) Klus of Raleigh, NC and Joseph (MaryBeth) Duprey of Cary, NC; five great grandchildren, Conor, Collin & Casey Klus, Amelia & James Duprey. She is also survived by one sister, Virginia Milne of Barre, one brother-in-law, Joseph Howard of Montpelier, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Howard and Elizabeth Hoare of Montpelier and Berlin and 23 nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Samuel in 1987, her son Robert in 1990, her sisters Dorothy
Burbank, Mary Chatot, Jean Hamilton and her brothers Howard, William and Alfred Simpson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Guare and Sons Funeral Home. Contributions in her memory may be made to Food Works @ Two Rivers Center, 64 Main St,
