Montpelier, VT
Manuela Ruiz Soldado, 86, had a gentle peaceful passing surrounded by members of her family on Friday, August 28, 2015 at CVMC in Berlin.
Born on February 10, 1929 in Moron de la Frontera, Spain, she was the daughter of Andres Ruiz Cruz and Encarnacion Soldado Lopera.
She was a little girl when the Spanish Civil War started. Those were horrible years and she and her family suffered many hardships and losses during the war, but those losses did not diminish her gentle loving spirit.
On August 26, 1949, she married Fermin Davila in Cordoba, Spain.
In July 1954, she traveled with their 2 children to the United States to join her husband who had found work in Montpelier. The family settled in Montpelier where 4 more children joined the family.
Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life and she loved them all dearly.
Manuela was a home maker her entire life. She honed those home making skills to an art and was a great cook and baker. Her hobbies included embroidery, crotchet, knitting and gardening. She passed those skills and hobbies on to her children who are passing them on to their children.
She is survived by five children: Maria Hedin of Barre; Andy and Kathy Davila of Vero Beach, Florida; Susana and Tom Williams of Berlin; Manuel Davila of Montpelier and Cristina and Randy Chase of South Barre and 10 grandchildren: Laura and Tomas Hedin, Matt and Jason Davila, Paul and Alex Williams, and Emily, Sarah and Kaitlyn Chase. Her surviving family living in Spain includes 3 brothers (Andres, Paco and Raphael) and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her infant son, Daniel in 1955 and her husband, Fermin in 2004.
There will be no calling hours. Her service will be in the chapel at Guare and Sons Funeral Home at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 with internment to follow the service at the Berlin Corners Cemetery.
