Obituary

East Montpelier Lucy Wheeler, 87, of Sodom Pond Road died Monday at her home in East Montpelier. She was born on July 5, 1922 the daughter of Jerry & Enola (Goodrich) Slayton and she attended the Adamant School and Plainfield High School. Lucy was married in 1939 to Charles Wheeler. They moved to CT and Lucy worked for Pratt-Whitney Aircraft during the war time and later was a baker in New Britain. They purchased a farm in Adamant and moved back to Vermont. The couple worked their dairy farm for many years and loved raising cows, horses and enjoyed hunting and fishing and living on the land they owned. After the sale of the farm Lucy was later married to Leon Wheeler and they built a home on Sodom Pond Road. Mr. Wheeler pre-deceased her and she continued to live independently for many years in her home they built. Lucy also loved animals, especially her dog, Chi Chi. She survived by a nieces and nephews. Lucy's brothers and sisters are all deceased, Homer Slayton, Alice Converse, Elgin Slayton, Horace Slayton and Dorothy Slayton. The family would like to thank the Central Vermont Home Health Agency, Council on Aging, and the Meals on Wheels Program. A grave side service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31st, at Poplar Hill Cemetery, North Montpelier Village. Rev. Rebecca Clark, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church will officaite.
