Lucene E. (Patno) Paradiso, 91, died peacefully on April 14, 2013 at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, VT where she received loving care as a longtime resident. Lucene was born November 15, 1921 in Morristown Corners, VT to Eli and Gladys (Flanders) Fiske. Lucene graduated from Peoples Academy and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Johnson State College.
She married William G. Patno on August 14, 1944 at St. Sylvester's Church in Graniteville, where they lived most of their married life. William died in 1987. Lucene met and married Charles Paradiso in 1989. Charles died in 1990. Lucene was also pre-deceased by her parents and her sister Janette (Fiske) Senna.
Lucene is survived by her son William E. Patno and his wife Diane of Woodbury, VT, and her daughter Lisa (Patno) Pinkus of Montpelier. She had four grandchildren; William E Patno, II, of Montpelier, Robert Scott Patno of Derry, NH, Cody G. Patno of Barre Town, VT and Heather E. (Pinkus) Adams of Montpelier. She leaves six great grandchildren, Cole, Jadyn, Eli, and Lukas Patno, Mikayla Adams, and Andriana Stratton and several nieces and nephews.
Lucene taught in Barre City and Barre Town schools for nearly forty years. She retired from Barre Town Elementary School. Many Central Vermonters learned to read and write at Lucene's knee. She could always recognize her students on the street, even thirty years after attending her class. She was a long time member of the Montpelier Ladies Auxiliary VFW Montpelier. She loved dancing and playing Bingo and will be greatly missed by all.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, April 20th at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
