Mrs. Louise Duke, 92, died Monday December 21, 2009 in Montpelier. She was born Florence Louise Lewis in St. Albans, VT on August 1, 1917 the youngest daughter of George & Florence (Hatch) Lewis. Louise was educated in St. Albans schools and Burlington Business College. She was employed at the National Life Insurance Company several times and one stretch of 25 years in the new business section. She was a member of the quarter Century Club at National Life and a member of Bethany Church. Louise enjoyed volunteer work at the library and the Red Cross and was an avid reader. She was married to Carroll L. Duke in 1943. Mr. Duke died in 1980. Two children were born of this union, Jeffrey Lewis Duke of Winooski, VT; and Wm. James Duke of Richland, Iowa; they survive her as well a niece and several nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and a brother. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 28th, at the Bethany Church, Main Street, Montpelier. Burial will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Green Mount Cemetery, Montpelier.
