Louise Pearl Barnes, 89 , of Elm Street, Montpelier passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Woodridge Nursing Home.
She was born May 24, 1920 in Westfield, Massachusetts the daughter of Jabez and Pearle (Crawford) Barnes.
Louise attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School and Johnson Normal School. She took advances studies at the University of Vermont and the University of Connecticut.
Louise taught school in Barnet and Putney, Vermont before spending 34 years as a teacher and Director of Reading in Springfield, Vermont. She was an exchange teacher in England for a period of time and retired after 41 years in education.
After her retirement she spent winters at her home in Briny Breezes in the Town of Boynton Beach, Florida. She was a volunteer in the library and her church there. She spent summers at her brother's home in Montpelier and much of this time was spent at her brother's camp at Curtis Pond. Louise loved it there and enjoyed having her family and friends join her there.
She leaves a brother, Robert Barnes of Montpelier; and nephews, Steven Bolles and his family of Fairlee and a Douglas Bolles of Barre, VT
Louise is predeceased by her sister, Shirley Bolles.
She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Bethany Church, Vermont Council on Reading, Washington County and Vermont State Teachers Association.
A grave side service for immediate family will be held at Cutler Cemetery, East Montpelier.
There will be no calling hours.
