Lorraine Pilini Aja, 88, longtime resident of South Barre, VT passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center on March 21st, after a brief illness.
She had recently moved to The Gardens in Williamstown. She was born on July 23, 1924 in Barre, VT, the daughter of Gotardo and Beatrice (Broggi) Pilini. She graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre, class of 1942.
She married Joseph (Pepe) Aja on March 11, 1950. Lorraine worked as a bookkeeper for a law office, several insurance companies, a local clothing retail shop and as secretary to the superintendent and principal at Barre Town Elementary School. She was member of the Universalist Church in Barre, and enjoyed volunteering there and Central Vermont Hospital. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crafts, reading and traveling with her husband Joe. They spent many winters in Florida and South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband Joseph; son, Douglas Aja and Janis Mattson of East Montpelier; daughter, Joan Aja of South Barre; brother, Donald & Helen Pilini of Florida; brother-in law, Dominic Montagna of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Malia Montagna.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Universalist Church, Barre, Monday, April 1st at 2:30 pm.
