Obituary

Montpelier, VT Mr. Loren B Fraser, 87, Montpelier died October 27, 2015 at Heaton Woods. Loren was born to J. Victor Fraser and Beatrice (Bouchard) Fraser at Heaton Hospital Montpelier on May 13, 1928. Loren joined the Army Air Corps after graduating from Montpelier High School in 1945. Most notably he served as an air traffic controller in Occupied Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. He attended the College Aeronautical Technology in East St. Lewis, Illinois after WWII, but his time there was cut short when he was called to serve in the Korean War. After the war Loren married Cora E. Fraser (Fair) of Calais and moved to Connecticut for a brief stint at Pratt & Whitney before he moved back to Vermont to work for the State of Vermont Highway Department. While at the State he took advantage of the SIT and EIT programs earning both his Vermont Land Surveyors and Professional Engineering License. Loren was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Brother Roger bought Deer Camp back in 1953 and hunted the hills of Duxbury with his friends and family all the rest of his life. Loren was one of the first Vermonters to traipse over to Michigan to "teach those Michigan guys how to fish steelhead". I don't know who taught who but he sure caught a lot of fish. Later on Loren pursued King Salmon in Mexico Bay earning his Captain's License and operating a small fishing charter business. His specialty was scooting out well before dawn on heavy weather days to catch a few before the wind blew everyone off the pond. Later in life Loren retired first to Belize and then to Bradenton FL where he spent his retirement fishing, playing shuffle board and hanging with Zach fixing things up. Dad is survived by his children Stephen Fraser of Glover, Diane Caccavo of Marshfield, Russel Fraser of So. Burlington, Scott Fraser of Essex And Andy Fraser of Milton; grandchildren Kristin Sohlstrom, Erinn Wang, Nicholas and Anthony Caccavo, Ellen and Peter Fraser, Michael and David Fraser, Hannah and Kendyl Fraser; great-grandchildren Emily and Conner Sohlstrom and Lyra Boots Caccavo; sisters Phyllis Downey and Janet Koval; Brother Roger Fraser. Loren was predeceased by his infant son Douglas, parents and Brother Paul V. Fraser. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Committal prayers will follow at St. Augustine's Cemetery.
