Montpelier, VT Lilyan E. Erb Brewster, 93, former resident of Montpelier but most recently of Catonsville, MD, died on April 5, 2012 after a short illness. She was born on October 4, 1918 on 107th street in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of Charles and Emily Erb. Lilyan graduated from Sewanahaka High School in Floral Park, NY in the class of 1936. She then graduated from Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 and later from the Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Her profession led her into Industrial and Pediatric Nursing. She later worked as a Nursery School Teacher and Director where she retired. On January 8, 1944, she married John Birnie Brewster. He predeceased her on June 10, 1993. She lived in Montpelier from 1956 until 2010, when she moved to Catonsville, MD to be closer to her family. She studied American Sign Language and devoted the last 30 years to tutoring and promoting an awareness and understanding of the deaf. She was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Brewster; a daughter, Linda Young; six grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a sister, Marilyn Erb Tonne, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
