PLAINFIELD- Lewis “Lewie” G. Graham Jr, 84, of Plainfield passed away on Sunday August 30, 2026 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington.

Lewie (“Jake” to his family and cousins) is the son of the late Lewis Graham Sr and Ramona St. Jock. He was born and grew up in Montpelier.

He enlisted in the Air Force after high school, served in England, and retired from service after 20 years in the Vermont National Guard and Army Reserve. He was a Barre Police officer for 12 years and then sold insurance for John Hancock before moving on to self-employment. His college courses in law enforcement, business and economics were the foundation for his successful 30-year business selling gaming supplies until his retirement in 2012.

Lew is a Past Exalted Ruler of Barre Elks Lodge 1535, Past Commander of The American Legion Post 10, Past State Director of The American Legion Riders and a charter member forming the Central Vermont Legion Riders Chapter 10. He enjoyed riding his candy apple red CAN-AM whenever possible to promote the program.

Lew was a lifetime member of The American Legion, Elks Club, VFW and the Canadian Club and left every organization the better for his dedicated participation. He never compromised his integrity and his loyal friendship will be missed by many. Lew loved people and noticed and engaged everyone who came into his orbit, from the clerk at the grocery to the person washing the floor in a hotel lobby. He drove for Meals on Wheels for several years and his visit was the highlight of their day for many on his route. He would consistently be admonished to return earlier to the Center, a suggestion he routinely cheerfully ignored. He stood up for his own standards of fairness, justice and service even at significant personal cost, and his compassion and quiet generosity were a lifelong undercurrent of service to others which will be felt for many years to come.

Lew is survived by his partner of 16 years, Marilyn Davis, his beloved daughter, Amy Graham who is the light of his life, and his former wife Naomi Graham. He is predeceased by both his parents, and several aunts and uncles.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11am at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont. A celebration of life will follow at VFW Post 790 in East Barre, Vermont.
