Leroy W. Brett, 87, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the UVM Medical Center in Berlin, VT.
He was born on November 3, 1931 in Roxborough, PA, the son of Philip and Mary (Frey) Brett. He attended Roxborough High School in PA and later the Philadelphia College of the Bible.
He then enlisted into the United States Navy from 1950-52, where he served on the USS Gatling until his honorable discharge.
In 1958, he married Evelyn in Philadelphia, PA. Together they moved to Middlesex in 1966. She predeceased him on June 17, 1978. Two years later he married Sylvia of Colchester, Vermont.
Leroy began his career as a postal carrier in 1968. He worked at the Montpelier Post Office until his retirement in 1994. Leroy had a passion for working on his dairy farm in Middlesex. He became skilled at many types of trade including carpentry, plumbing, and masonry. These skills were passed on to all of his sons. Leroy was a Member and Deacon of the Shady Rill Baptist Church and he also took great pride in being the keeper of the church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Brett of Plainfield; his sister, Carol Evans of Maryland his sons, Phillip(Andrea) of Burlington, VT, John(Nancy) of Middlesex, VT, Harold(Jennifer) of Berry, KY, George(Tonya) of Middlesex, VT, Charles(Jenny) of Afton, NY, Wilson(Michelle) of Montpelier, VT, Nathan(Cristine) of Fairbanks, AK, and; step daughter, Carren Warren(Steven) of Plainfield, VT; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Oscar Brett and Barbara Brett.
A funeral service will be held at the Bible Baptist Church in Berlin, VT on June 7 at 10:00 am, followed by a committal with military honors at the North Branch Cemetery. Dates and times will be announced later.
