Obituary

N. Hero, VT Lawrence W. Pratt, 83, of N. Hero and formerly of Montpelier died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on July 14, 1931 in Montpelier, the son of Wayne S. and Freda (Silloway) Pratt. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950 and received an associate degree from Montpelier Seminary School before enlisting into the United States Army. On September 7, 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanine Canales at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. During the Korean War, he served his country in Germany before being honorably discharged. He continued his service as a member of the Vermont National Guard until the 1960's. After his service in the army, he attended Norwich University and graduated as a member of the Magnificent Class of 1959, receiving his bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He spent his career working for the Federal Highway Administration and participated in the construction of Interstate 89. From 1983 until his retirement in 1987, he and Jeanine expanded their horizons, moving to Kuwait where Larry was an adviser to the Kuwait government on their road building projects. The Pratt's returned to Vermont, living on their sailboat while building a home in N. Hero, VT. Larry worked for 10 yrs. for the Lake Champlain Transportation Co. He was a member of the N. Hero volunteer Fire Department and Past President and founding member of the Pelots Bay Restoration Association. He maintained a varied interest in airplanes, obtaining his solo soaring license, building model planes and flying remote control planes. He had a variety of sailboats over the years and taught his children and grandchildren how to sail. He played the trumpet in the Milton Town Band and with the Inseldudlers, a local German Band. Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Pratt of N. Hero, daughter, Jody Barna and her husband Ed of Randolph; sons, Dean Pratt and his wife Patsy of Los Angeles, CA, Jeff Pratt and his wife Jennifer of Durango, CO, Tim Pratt and his companion Angela Ribolini of Berlin, Eric Pratt of Baltimore, MD, and Carl Pratt and his wife Sue of Pittsfield, MA; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren; sister Constance Doucette and her husband Roland of Baltimore, VT; and brother, Rodrick Pratt and his wife Ralpha of Barre, VT Calling hours will be held from 6-8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at St. Augustine's Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the N.
