Obituary

Roxbury, VT Laurance John Maney let go of this human life on February 11, 2008 after a brief illness. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 27, 1938. He married Linda Berg on September 6, 1986. He was a multi-faceted, intelligent and loving person. He worked in construction as a surveyor and estimator having come from a long line of builders and creators. He attended Tufts University, Boston College and Merrimack University in his younger years and then in his 50's, earned a Masters and Doctorate Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in Celtic Languages and Literature. He wrote papers and studied on his own even after his graduate days. He returned to construction estimating in Vermont and enjoyed that even as recently as last month. He was alive and fully human. He loved music and books. He could hear things and understand things in a most wonderful and sometimes contrarian way. He taught his family and friends a lot about life and how to live it. He liked nice dogs and he and Linda's nice dog, Emma, will miss him. He was not perfect, but that made him all the more a friend, companion and helper in lives of others. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Roxbury; a son, Wright Maney of Austin, Texas; a step-daughter, Lisa Curtis of New Boston, New Hampshire; daughter-in-law Lynette Estes of Round Rock, Texas; grandsons, Liam and Cai Maney of Round Rock, Texas; and a brother, Paul and his wife Joyce Maney of Lexington, Massachusetts; sister-in-law Wendy (Michael) Castonguay of Dedham. Massachusetts and sister-in-law Debbie Zinter of Johnstown, New York. He also survived by beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. He is survived by many friends of Bill, his spiritual family. Calling Hours will be on Friday, February 15, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier. A celebration of life service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 at Bethany Church.
