Montpelier, VT Keith L. Wortman, 78, of Deerfield Drive, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Central Vermont Medical Center. He was born in Easton, ME on November 5, 1930, the son of Alexander and Ethel (Williams) Wortman. He attended high school in Easton and graduated president of his class in 1949. He was Captain of the school baseball team and also excelled in basketball. After high school, he attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in 1953 with a B.A. in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management. After college he enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1956 with the rank of First Lieutenant . On July 16, 1953, he married Jean Cass in Easton, ME. His career began in Aroostook County, Maine with the Farmers Home Administration. Moving to Vermont in 1965, he continued with that office and retired as Chief of Rural Housing in 1987 after 33 years. After his retirement he would buy and sell antique tools as a hobby. His other passions were his vegetable gardens, World Series Champion Boston Red Sox and most of all his family. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Montpelier where for many years he served as Treasurer. Survivors include his wife, Jean Wortman; two daughters, Karla Jurentkuff and her husband Kris of Peacham and Kathy Bousquet and her husband Stephen of Morrisville; two sons, Kevin Wortman and his wife Linda of Waterbury Center and Keith (Kim) Wortman and his wife Kareen of Westford, MA; Grandchildren are Kevin Wortman and his wife Amanda of Irvine, CA, Kristopher Wortman and his fiancé Kelly Kumm of Burlington, MA, Katie Wortman of Silverthorne, CO, Sarah Wortman of Waterbury Center, VT, Elizabeth Bousquet and Alexander Bousquet, both of Morrisville, VT. He was predeceased by five brothers, Lawrence, Ruel, Eslie, Aldine, and Neil. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Montpelier. Committal services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 5 St. Paul Street, Montpelier, VT.
