Katherine Mary (Rouelle) Thurber, 92, of Herrick's Cove Road, Woodbury died at her home on January 3, 2013. She was born in Montpelier on October 27, 1920 the daughter of Leon Rouelle and Alma (Mathieu) Rouelle. Katherine attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated in 1939 from St. Michael's High School. Kathy worked for several years as a cook and nurse's aid in nursing homes in the area and retired from Mayo Nursing in Northfield in 1990. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo at different clubs several nights of the week. Kathy was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and CDA. She also worked as a housekeeper and cook for her brother, Fr. Forrest Rouelle while he was assigned to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bethel, VT. On June 10, 1960 she married Hayden Thurber in Plainfield, VT. Mr. Thurber died October 11, 2007. Survivors include three daughters, Marian Morrison of Sebring, FL; Barbara Prentice and her husband, Ted of York Haven, PA; Nancy Durgin and her husbnd, Ron of Woodbury, VT; two sons, Wilfred Gauthier and his wife, Cilla, of NH; and James Gauthier and his wife, Laurie of Cabot, VT;22 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 39 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughte-in-law, Alberta Gauthier of Roxbury, VT and two sisters-in-law, Stella Rouelle of Barre and Anne Rouelle of VA. Kathy was predeceased by her husband, Hayden and a son, Robert Gauthier on November 29, 2012,son-in-law, Evi Morrison and nine brothers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Jan. 8th from St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, VT. There will be no calling hours.
