On December 16, 2020, Judy, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, began her eternal journey. We take solace in the fact that the soul of this beautiful person is now free.
Born July 19, 1943 in Elgin, Illinois, to Alfred E. and Leatha G. (Hutson) Piper, Judy grew up with an affinity for dancing, roller skating, and big finned cars (the bigger, the better). While working at the Elgin Watch Co., Judy met her husband and father to her children, Brian Keith Neil. This match may have never happened had a co-worker, tired of Brian's admiration from afar, not thrown a tennis ball and hit Judy in the head. Judy married Brian in 1962 (despite the tennis ball), and left for San Diego, California that very same day in their 1962 Austin Healy. Two years later, they welcomed their first child.
While pregnant with her second child, Judy and Brian decided Vermont would be a better place to raise a family. Brian began working for General Electric in Burlington, Vermont, and later co-founded Land Air Suzuki in Essex Junction. Judy settled down to nurture and raise her children with the birth of her third child.
Judy later married Paul Savoie. It is during these years that Judy's calling as a caregiver would become her legacy. But nothing pleased her more then caring for her grandchildren. When asked what her hobbies were, she would reply, "taking care of my grandbabies".
After the second marriage ended, Judy spent her remaining years with her partner Stephen Holcomb, of Hardwick, Vermont. Together, they traveled to several countries, wintered in New Smyrna, Florida, and with her grandbabies now grown, found joy in her rescue dogs Markee, Saxon, and grand puppy, McEnroe.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie Neil of Vermont; son, R. Keith Neil of Vermont; son, Scott Alexander Neil of Utah, 4 grandsons (Ryan Flannery, Christopher Flannery, Logan Middelton, Canaan Middelton), 2 granddaughters (Kaysea Neil, Melanie Neil), and 2 great grandchildren (Natalie Flannery, Lachlan Flannery); partner, Stephan E. Holcomb of Vermont.
Memorial contribution in her memory may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society,
