George

Calais, VT
Joyce George, 81, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 11, 1943, Joyce was a woman of unwavering dedication, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.
On July 10, 1965, she married the love of her life, Harvey George, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and hard work. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting family first.
She is survived by her three children and their families; son, Daniel and Christina George, and their daughters, Ally Bailey, Emily George, and Brooke George. Joyce was also a proud great-grandmother to Jack, Owen, and Evelyn Bailey; Son, David George and Emily Parker; and son, Jon and Ashley George, and their son Joseph George.
Joyce was a dedicated nurse, always caring for others with compassion. She had a strong work ethic and loved staying busy, whether tending to her beautiful flower gardens, working in the woods, or making small batches of maple syrup. She had a special love for hummingbirds, delighting in their presence outside her home.
She was deeply involved in her community and was a proud member of the Women's Relief Corps, Mountain Tamers Snowmobile Club, and the Averill Camp Owners Recreational Association. She found joy in the friendships she built through these groups and in the shared love of the outdoors.
An avid snowmobiler, Joyce embraced Vermont winters, enjoying long rides through the snow and peaceful snowshoe walks around her home and in the maple sugar orchard. Summers were spent at Little Averill Lake, where she found joy and tranquility at camp, surrounded by nature and family.
Joyce's warmth, strength, and love for the outdoors will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, deep love for her family, and an appreciation for life's simple, beautiful moments.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Vermont Audubon Society https://vt.audubon.org/or to a local conservation or wildlife organization of your choice, reflecting her lifelong love for nature.
