Joyce Fuller Bean, 92, of East Montpelier, VT passed away on December 6, 2018 at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing. She was born on May 7, 1926, the daughter of Floyd and Gertrude (Neal) Fuller. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1944 before attending the Chandler Secretarial School, in Boston. On September 27, 1947, Joyce married Harold Bean in Randolph Center. Mr. Bean predeceased her on August 4, 2001. In 1950 they purchased their land on Barnes Road and for the first few months lived in a tent while Harold built their house. Joyce was a secretary for a few years, choosing to stay home once her children were born. For 38 years Joyce used her craftsmanship to create custom slipcovers and draperies, retiring from that in 1999. She was very civic-minded, serving on the East Montpelier school board for 5 years, 3 of which she was chair of the board. Later she served on the Planning Commission, which she chaired for a year. Joyce enjoyed sewing and was an avid Scrabble player. She also enjoyed reading and attending the local theatre shows. In earlier years she had a large vegetable garden and many flowers. She loved meeting people and getting to know them. Survivors include her children, Jeff Bean and his wife Cheryl of Middlesex, VT, Lesley Bean of Calais, VT, and granddaughters Kelcie Ann Bean of New Bedford, MA and Molly McCreedy of Calais, VT. Also nieces Clair Rhodes and Heather Reynolds of PA, Jill Perry of WV, and Lynn Alstead and Diane Calfee of FL. She was predeceased by her sister, Audrey Fuller Otto. Calling will be held 10:00 AM 11:00 AM on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow beginning at 11:00.
