Joseph J. Howard, 93, of Berlin Street, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Central Vermont Medical Center.
He was born on December 3, 1919 in Montpelier, the son of William and Catherine Buchanan. He was the youngest of 17 children. He attended Montpelier Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School class of 1939.
On June 19, 1945, He married Virginia Kimball at the Christ Church in Montpelier, VT.
He worked for several departments with the State of Vermont, including Public Records, Public Safety, State Library, and the Department of Agriculture. Primarily he worked with record keeping but also mapping, including aerial mapping during the construction of interstate 89.
Clubs and memberships include the Montpelier Elks Club, Christ Episcopal Church, Berlin Historical Society and the Vermont State Employees Retirees.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Howard; daughter, Jeanne Kennedy of South Burlington; two sons, Jeffrey Howard of Montpelier and Bruce Howard of Rutland; grandchildren, Janet, JLeigh, Jonathan, Courtney, Meg, Drew, Ashley, and Benjamin; two step granddaughters, Deborah and Rebecca.
He was predeceased his siblings.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
