Montpelier, VT John K. Seymour, 79, of Montpelier, VT passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease on January 14, 2020 at Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing in Berlin, VT with family at his bedside. John was born on May 9, 1940 in Carbondale, PA, the son of Richard Keith Seymour and Jennie Williams (Bjork) Seymour. He graduated from Central Dauphin High School in Dauphin, PA and from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA. After college, John enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War, served his active duty at the Pentagon, and was honorably discharged after two years of service. He worked as a Chartered Life Underwriter and Enrolled Actuary for Security Mutual Life Insurance Company in Binghamton, NY from 1962-1982. He was then employed as Pension Actuarial Services Director for General American Life Insurance Company in St. Louis, MO, where he held the designations Fellow, Life Management Institute, Chartered Financial Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Enrolled Actuary. In 1988, John moved to Vermont to join National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, and worked in the National Retirement Plan Advisors area as Enrolled Actuary until his retirement in 2005. John was a member of the Mathematical Association of America, American Legion Post #3 and the Lebanon Valley College Walter Society; he had previously been a member of the Elks during his time in NY, and of the Lakeview Rod & Gun Club in PA. He enjoyed fishing, and made several fly-in trips to Canada to fishing camps with his friends, accompanied by his son Jake on his most recent trip. He enjoyed weekly bowling at Twin City Lanes with his Parkinson's group bowling team, and had many monthly poker nights with a revolving group of friends in the past. John & Doris took several Caribbean cruises together, to help shorten the Vermont winters. John was also an avid reader. John will be mourned and missed by his wife of 46 years, Doris (Hoal) Seymour, their son, Jake A. Seymour and his wife Jennifer of St. Albans, VT, and granddaughters Haley and Ashley. He is also survived by his sister Jane Lenox of Elizabethtown, PA; his brother Bruce and wife Rosemarie Seymour of Glade Hill, VA; sister-in-law Alice Deutsch of Statesville, NC, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, and brothers-in-law William Lenox and William Deutsch. The Seymours would like to thank the very caring staff of Woodridge for the gentle help and support provided to John and his family.
