Montpelier, VT John H. Donnelly, 84 of Grandview Terrace, Montpelier died, Sunday, April 19, 2009 at his home. John was born in Montpelier, VT November 6, 1925 of John M. And Laura (Villa) Donnelly. He attended St. Michael Graded Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1943. In October 1943 he entered the US Navy during WW 2, serving in both Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theaters, and was discharged from the service in March of 1946 as a radioman. John later graduated from the Vermont Junior College in 1948. Mr. Donnelly first started his insurance career as a special agent with the American Fidelity Company and later became associated with Brown Insurance Agency in 1960 and became vice-president and secretary. He retired February 1, 1983. John is a member of St. Augustine Church, Life member; Past Exalted Rule (PER); Past District Deputy (PDD) of the Montpelier Elks #924, American Legion #3, VFW #792, Mutuo Inc., and former member of the Montpelier Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dineen, whom he married December 1, 1951 in Barre, VT; a daughters, Susan Tucker of Barre Town and her husband, Jeffery Tucker and twin grandsons Brian and Eric Tucker. Also a nephew, Rt. Col. Stephen Donnelly of Burke, VA, and a niece Jane Lanigan of Vancouver, WA and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Patricia Atwood and a brother Robert Donnelly. John enjoyed sports and coached a Babe Ruth baseball team. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. A mass will be offered 11:00 am on Friday, April 24, 2009 at St. Augustine church.. Burial will follow at the Green Mount Cemetery.
