John James Corskie passed away at home on Tuesday the 18th of January with his Daughter and Son-In-Law. John was born on Veteran's Day in 1933. His Mother was (Alice) Muriel James and his Father was John Campbell Corskie., both deceased. John grew up on Kemp avenue in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1951. Recently he celebrated his 70th reunion with his classmates. He attended UVM and instead of being drafted, volunteered for service in the Korean war and joined the Army. He did two years as a Medical Technician. He then transferred into the Army Reserve for another 8 years. During his Army reserve time he got his Bachelor's in Mathematics from Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT. Upon graduation he married Theresa Lucille Martel in June of 1959. He started working two weeks later at International Business Machines. He stayed with IBM until his retirement in 1990. He was able to travel to many parts of the world during his employment. He and Terry loved to Jitterbug and could be seen all over dancing. Until her death in 2007 they never missed a chance to listen to some jazz and dance. Most of his adult life John lived in South Burlington on the lake on Bartlett's Bay. The water in the summer was beautiful and provided many outlets for athletic pursuits. The best time in his life was after retirement. He was a jock and loved all sports. His love of downhill skiing was the greatest. He skied until he was 83 mostly at Mount Mansfield/Stowe. As a young man he loved to go to all of the winter carnivals and participate in the ski jumping competitions. In the off ski season, he could be seen on the links playing golf, tennis, sailing and swimming. All of his sports pursuits were shared with his daughter Jo Ann. He was the best Dad a girl could ever had. He leaves behind his only child, his daughter Jo Ann Corskie Gibbons and Son-In-Law David J. Gibbons and his randog/Jack. He also leaves behind his three lifetime friends (since grammar school):Donald Rowan, Dick Gale and Servando Canas. "No better friends could a man ever have!". John leaves behind a sister Carole C.
