BARRE - Jo-Ann Alonzo, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at Woodridge Nursing Home surrounded by loved ones and her extended family. She was born on October 13, 1951, in Barre.

Her passion was cooking on an old wood burning cookstove. She enjoyed collecting and displaying vintage pottery and cast-iron cookware, which she used to prepare and serve wonderful meals. When she would taste something new to her, she could make it even without a recipe.

Her creative skills and attention to detail were evident in everything she did. She took pride in making things that were not just delicious, but also healthy. In the arts and crafts area, she would design and make quilts. After seeing an old pie cabinet with tin print panels in the doors, she used unique picture frames for her own tin prints. She also loved laughter, music, animals, travel, and tending her plants.

Part of her final wishes were to acknowledge the loving and carting staff at UVM, CVMC, Home Health, Woodridge, and hospice for their efforts toward her quality of life after such a massive stroke in 2013. By her request, some of her ashes will be taken to her favorite locations for private services and celebrations of her life. In remembrance of Jo's life and in lieu of flowers, she asks that donations be made to help the homeless and/or food band.
