Jeannine L. Campbell, 83, formerly of 9 Dairy Lane and most recently of 65 River Street died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Rowan Court Rehab Center.
She was born on October 16, 1929 in Greensboro, VT, the daughter of Joseph and Marie-Ange (Fortin) Lavertu. She was educated in Hardwick and graduated Hardwick Academy in the class of 1947.
On August 6, 1955, she married Richard Currier Campbell in Hardwick, VT. Mr. Campbell predeceased her on January 17, 1978.
Jeannine was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She often returned to Hardwick, VT, where she grew up, to attend family gatherings, and visit with old friends and classmates, especially her lifelong best friend Barbara Whalen. Jeannine enjoyed attending the annual French Heritage Gathering in Hardwick where she would sing along and dance to traditional French songs. She loved the music of the Big Band Era and dancing the Jitterbug well into her seventies!
After the death of her husband in 1978, Jeannine worked at a number of retail stores in downtown Montpelier, including Gray's Clothing Store, Small World, The Peach Tree, and her favorite, the Cobbler's Leather and Luggage Shop. These jobs gave her the opportunity to see and visit with many members of the Montpelier community-a source of great strength and joy to her.
Survivors include her sons; Mark Jeffrey Campbell and his children, Derek and Zachary Campbell of Middlesex, Richard Brett Campbell of Montpelier, and John Joseph Campbell and his daughter, Emily Catherine Campbell of Montpelier; sisters, Lorraine Hussey of Hardwick, Louise Gallant of Hardwick, and Andrea Herbert of Ticonderoga, NY; and a brother, Paul Lavertu of Hardwick.
Visiting hours and a celebration of Jeannine's life will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
