Montpelier, VT
Jeanne Foote Wilber, age 93, died peacefully in her sleep in her room at Heaton Woods on December 20, 2015.
Jeanne was born August 22, 1922 in Burlington, New York to John Curtis and Olive (Telfer) Foote. She grew up on her parents farm in Garrattsville, New York along with her sisters, Irma and Theda, and twin sister, Irene. Many of her fondest memories were of life on the farm.
Jeanne went to Keuka College and then to beauty school after which she opened a beauty parlor in New Berlin, New York. There she met Norman Wilber, who she married on Nov. 24, 1945 and spent her life with until his death on December 20, 1998, 17 years ago to the day of Jeanne's passing.
They made their home in New Berlin before moving to Clifton Park, New York where they spent 12 years before returning to New Berlin.
In 1978, while returning home from a visit with their sons in Plainfield, Vermont, they travelled through Cambridge, New York and saw a house for sale that they liked, purchased it and moved there.
Not too long after Norman's death, Jeanne moved to Montpelier, Vermont to be closer to her sons. There she lived independently until moving to Heaton Woods about 2 years ago.
During Jeanne's life she was a beautician, homemaker, and administrative secretary for her husband's business, which sold audio-visual equipment to schools and churches. She loved making crafts, camping in the Adirondacks, and playing cards with her friends and grandsons. She was an active member of the Cambridge community, volunteering at the local hospital thrift-shop, the senior center, and participating in activites at her church.
Jeanne was a very kind and caring person. One of her favorite expressions when asked about her health or living situations and conditions was "I can't complain."
Jeanne is survived by her sons and their wives, Frederick Wilber and Patty Morgan and Dennis and Penny Towers Wilber of Plainfield, Vermont; grandchildren Morgan Wilber of Boston, Mass. and Austin and Mason Wilber of Montpelier; and nephews Ronald Schumann of Beavercreek, Ohio and Robert Schumann of Marcellus, New York.
Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge, NY.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, January 8, 2015 at Heaton Woods.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, PO Box 687, Montpelier, Vermont 05601.
