Janice A. Hill, 90, formerly of 120 Northfield St. and most recently of Mansfield Place in Essex Junction, VT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 held in the love of her family and friends. She was born on December 23, 1927 in Stowe, VT, one of six children of Hayes and Gladys (Smith) Walker. She graduated from Stowe High School and Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Copley and Heaton hospitals and for many years, until her retirement at the age of 85, at the Gary Home in Montpelier.
On May 30, 1949 she married Albert A. Hill in St. Johnsbury, VT. Her beloved husband predeceased her on February 28, 1965.
Janice was a faithful member of St. Augustine Parish in Montpelier. She was devoted to her family, patients and many friends and was an active contributor to St. Michaels School, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Montpelier Senior Activity Center.
Survivors include her children: Deborah (Thomas) McCormick of Montpelier, Mary (Allen) Shepard of Winooski,VT, Peter (Janet) Hill of Tolland CT, Gregory (Jean) Hill of Montgomery TX, and Carol (William) Carruth of Essex, VT, her grandchildren: Justin (Jennifer) McCormick, Ryan McCormick, Alexander Hill, Spencer (Danielle) Hill, Erica Hill, Meredith Hill, Eliza (Robert) Bertolino, Brigham Tosi, Jevin (Kelsey) Carruth, Jolton Carruth, Jennifer (Lance) Clark, Christina Hill and Danielle (Steven) Fiorentino, her great-grandchildren: Thomas Henry McCormick, Lucas Hill, Isla Carruth, Matthew, Theodore and Augustus Clark, her sister: Jean Tucker, her sister-in-law: Lorraine Hill and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Janice was predeceased by her son David Hill, granddaughter Marisa McCormick, grandson Andrew Shepard, her parents and siblings Eleanor (Hubert) Ginnett, Harold (Pauline) Walker, Robert (Beatrice) Walker and Colene (Jack) Dolan.
Her family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the many relatives, friends and the staff at Mansfield Place and The VNA who brought such comfort to her final days.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Montpelier. Burial will follow on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe, VT.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Augustine Church Renovation Fund at 16 Barre St. Montpelier, VT or to the VNA Hospice.
