Obituary

James Edward Smith, 64, of Washington Street, Barre died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a long illness. James was born in Barre City on June 26, 1948 the son of Harold and Eleanor (Thompson) Smith. He attended Washington Grade schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1966. Following his education, he starting working in the granite industry at the Rock of Ages quarry in Graniteville. He retired early due too ill health and became a self-employed painter in the area. He was a member of the American Legion # 10 and The Canadian Club of Barre. Jim married Adeline Katherine Campeau in Washington on February 26, 1994. Jim is survived by his wife, Adeline of Barre, VT and his mother, Eleanor C. Smith of Berlin Health Center; a daughter from a previous marriage, Sarah Hagely of Austin, Texas; three step-daughters, Dana Sweeney of Essex, VT; Kelly Clark of Barre Town; Teia Greenslit of Barre Town; three stepsons, Rowdy Doyon of Graniteville; Kip Doyon of Walden, VT and Todd Doyon of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving is a grandchild and 9 step-grandchildren and a step-great grandchild. Jim was predeceased by his Father, Harold; an infant brother, Bobby. At Jim's request a private family graveside service will be held at Wilson Cemetery, Barre Town.
