James Patrick Garvey, 82, passed away peacefully at Central Vermont Medical Center on Thursday, December 14, 2023 with his wife, Carla by his side
Jim was born in Indianapolis, IN on March 21, 1941, the fourth child of his parents, James and Helen Garvey.
While in Indianapolis, his attended St. Phillips Elementary School and Scecina High School. After graduation he entered the x-ray program at St. Vincent's Hospital and remained there working as a staff tech along side his father in the radiology department.
In 1961 Jim left St. Vincent's to join the United States Air Force, where he served four years as an x-ray Technician at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. It was during this time he met and married Bonnie Jo North and they welcomed their first child, Kevin Patrick Garvey.
Upon his honorable discharge, Jim moved his family to Deerfield Beach, FL where they welcomed two more sons. Jim and Bonnie later divorced but both remained in Deerfield Beach to be active in their sons' lives.
For several years Jim worked in Ft. Lauderdale, FL as an x ray tech and office manager for a large orthopedic office. During his employment he became the designated technician for the Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed x-raying and casting several of the players. In 1977 Jim married Carla (Wiedenmayer) Hagan and became a devoted step father to John Matthew Hagan. The four boys enjoyed a special bond together.
Jim had a passion for horses and he loved his Appaloosa "Cherokee". He went on to own three more horses, but none were as special to him as Cherokee.
In 1996 Jim and Carla moved to Vermont and Jim worked at Central Vermont Medical Center in the Radiology Department until retiring in 2012. Jim loved working there and had a great rapport with all his coworkers.
Retirement allowed him more time to spend caring for Carla's parents, Don and Shirley Wiedenmayer of Worcester, VT. Often, he would take them on day trips to enjoy the beauty of Vermont's Scenery.
Survivors include his wife, Carla; his sons, Kevin Patrick Garvey and wife, Michelle of Pompano Beach, FL, Brian Scott Garvey of Deerfield Beach, FL, Shawn Jeffry Garvey and wife, Crystal of Bryan, TX and John Matthew Hagan of Denver, CO. Jim is also survived by four grandchildren, Kayla, Austin, Logan, and Gavin, as well as two great grandchildren, Minnow and Hunter Mae. His two great nephews, Henry and Elias Fagginger-Auer gave him many years of joy.
Jim was predeceased by his parents and three sisters, Suzanne, Patricia, and Janice.
There will be no funeral services and the family will enjoy a time of celebration in the spring of 2024.
