Irene Nightingale Nettler, 91, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, Central Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by many loving friends.

Irene was born on June 28, 1933. She had a very happy childhood growing up in Buzzard's Bay, MA.

Irene moved to New York where she took a job working for United Airlines.

It was in NY where she met a math professor at Mont Claire University, Gideon (Teddy) Nettler. Teddy was the love of her life. Irene and Teddy enjoyed their early years of marriage in Kew Gardens, NY, before they moved to 8 First Avenue, in Montpelier, VT. They shared many happy years together in Montpelier.

Irene traveled extensively. Italy, France and England were among her favorite places to visit.

She discovered the joy of flower gardening, art and was a lifelong learner. Irene especially enjoyed the meals, friends and classes at the Montpelier Senior Center.

Irene exemplified how to live life grounded in love and a caring spirit. She was a quiet active friend of the Montpelier Unitarian Church for over 30 years. There she was an active member of the Women's Alliance and Monday Community Lunch, baking desserts and doing the laundry each week for many years. (During a Covid year she baked 22 dozen crescent cookies.)

Survivors include: niece, Denise (Arnold) Nieder of NY; nephew, Michael Cohen of FL; sister-in-law, Lorry De Buone of Italy; great nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Teddy. There will be a memory share at the next

Women's Alliance meeting, Tuesday, January 7, 5 pm, in the Vestry at the Montpelier Unitarian Church.

On a later date there will be a Service of Remembrance at the Montpelier Unitarian Church and a Family Graveside service to be held in Kew Gardens, NY.
