Ira J. Bylow entered into eternal rest on Wednesday May 19, 2010 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA.
Born in Barre, Vermont, he was the son of the late Vernon & Gladys Bylow. Ira leaves his loving wife of 59 years Consuelo (Gomez) Bylow, his brother-in-laws Ramon, Rudolf, Noel Gomez and his wife Jackie. Sister-in-laws Chiquita Gomez, Helen Gomez and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Vernon, Benjamin, Thelma, Ellen and Oland.
He graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre, received his Bachelors degree from American International College, his Masters Degree from Westfield State College and attended Graduate School at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
He began his career working for the Barre Recreation Department as an umpire for little league baseball and a basketball official for various high schools in Vermont. He was a social worker in Warehouse Point, Connecticut and for twenty eight years Ira was employed by the West Springfield School System as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor retiring in 1993. He had served as both president and treasurer of the School Adjustment Counselor Association.
He served in the United States Army from 1950 - 1952 and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.
A private funeral will be entrusted to Guare and Sons Funeral Home, Montpelier, Vermont on Wednesday May 26th at twelve noon with internment at the Berlin Corners Cemetery.
