Montpelier
Hershel B. "Red" Graham, Jr., 71, of Heaton Woods and formerly of Berlin and of Sandy Pines Park, died Tuesday March 18, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
He was born on October 17, 1936, in Montpelier, the son of Hershel B.Graham, Sr. and Mildred (Richardson) Graham.
He attended Montpelier Public Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1955. After high school he worked at Joe Lisa's Garage for a short time. He joined the US Army and after his discharge, lived in High Point, NC. There he worked for several years as a long distant truck hauler. Most recently he was employed by the Vermont Agency of Transportation. He retired in 2001 after 20 years of service with the State of Vermont.
He was a member of the American Legion, and was a life member of the Montpelier Elks Club. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Montpelier Country Club. He played for the American Legion and the Montpelier Ramblers Baseball teams. In the south, he was in various bowling leagues. Red was an easy going guy. He especially enjoyed good times and kidding around with others and family gatherings. He loved the Red Sox most of the time.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred Graham of Montpelier; three sisters, Janice Ghiringhelli of Montpelier; Gail Walker and her husband, Robert of Barre; and Dyan Graham of Berlin; three brothers, Richard Graham of Randall, Washington; Lawrence Graham and his wife, Lynda of Williamstown, VT; and Douglas Graham of Texas; several nieces and nephews, and uncles and aunts.
He was predeceased by his father, Hershel B. Graham, Sr. and his nephew, Michael Ghiringhelli.
Calling hours will be held 6:30-8:30 pm on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Guare & Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier. At his request, he will be cremated and a committal service will be held at the Worcester Mountain Cemetery in the spring.
