Obituary

Calais, VT Helen Adelaide Wilson, 90, formerly of Moscow Woods Road, Calais and Heaton Woods in Montpelier and most recently of Mayo Rehab & Continuing Care in Northfield died peacefully with family by her side, November 1, 2018. She was born on December 12, 1927 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Rudolph and Dorothy (Mason) Melusen. Helen graduated from Center Moriches High School in Long Island, NY. On November 12, 1949, Helen was married to Louis Philip Wilson in Center Moriches, NY. They started their life together in Center Moriches, then moved to Bethel, VT in the late 50's, after a camping trip introduced them to the peaceful lifestyle they wanted for their family. They eventually moved to East Montpelier and then to their last home in East Calais. This led to many visits from their family members left behind in NY and GREAT memories with their nieces and nephews who would stay for long summer visits. Helen will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, delicious homemade cookies, and her enormous and numerous perennial gardens. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Heaton Woods for their over the top care, love and patience with Helen, and her shenanigans of outdoor gardening, and to the staff of Mayo Rehab & Continuing Care for their attention to her comfort, safety and happiness for the past 12 months, especially in her final days. Helen is survived by two daughters, Lisa Wilson of East Calais; and Arlene Holm and her husband, Kenneth of Centereach, NY; 5 grandchildren, Seth Jackman, Alison Jackman, Jennifer Jackman, Jessica Pennington and Kristin O'Connor and 10 great grandchildren, Matthew and Robert Pennington, Avery O'Connor, Miles Ennis, Lillian and Drake Jackman, Alexander Keene, Faith, Zachary and Channing Jackman. She was pre-deceased by her husband on February 17, 2011, her daughter, Eileen Hathaway in 2013 and grandson Philip Jackman. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 6th, from 6-8 PM at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier. A Funeral memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM during calling hours with a social gathering of "Helen's" cookies to follow. Memorial Contributions may be made to Parkinson's Research or the Central VT Humane Society.
