Harvey Myers Olich, 95, formerly of Elm Street and more recently of Forest Drive, died March 10, 2018 at Woodridge Nursing Home.
He was born in Tower City, ND on April 10, 1922 the son of Leslie and Clara (Myers) Olich the oldest of 13 children and is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Harvey lived and attended schools in Moorhead, MN. He joined the US Army and attended Norwich University to become a pilot in the army but due to WW2 he was transferred to the infantry and transferred to Georgia prior to being sent to Germany. He remained in the Vermont National Guard and was recalled during the Korean Conflict which ended shortly after.
Harvey was married to Nora E. Straw from Waitsfield, VT on January 15, 1944. They had two sons, Gary and Jon. He is survived by Gary who lives in Miamisburg, Ohio with his wife, Claire and two grandsons, Jay and Jeffrey and his wife, Mona and great-grand-daughter, Layla.
Nora predeceased him on August 2, 1997 and their son, Jon on November 4, 1979.
On June 25,1999 Harvey married Barbara Fontaine, who survives him, as well as four step-daughters, Anita Allen, Linda Moran, Dottie Moran and Joanne Bilodeau.
Harvey worked for many years in the granite industry as well as several sales jobs in Central VT. His interest included traveling, keeping busy at his lake cabin on East Long Pond, meeting friends at the Wayside restaurant for coffee and snow machining. He took up skiing at the age of 65 and enjoyed it into his late 80s.
A grave side service will be held in the family lot at Green Mount Cemetery, Montpelier at a later date.
