Harry William "Hank" White, 96, a longtime resident of Wheelock Street, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Rowan Court Health & Rehabilitation Center in Barre, VT.
He was born in North Calais, VT on March 30, 1918, the son of Harry & Florence Hazel (Green) White.
Harry received his education at Calais Graded School and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1936.
Harry married Adera J. Lacarno on November 28, 1940 in Montpelier, VT. She predeceased him on July 10, 2009.
On May 29, 1942, he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After his honorable discharge from the military in 1945, he worked for the former North End Motors in Barre, and then the Employment and Security on School Street in Montpelier. He was also a longtime employee of the Vermont Highway Department, where he worked as a traffic engineer until his retirement in 1980.
He was a life member of VFW Post # 792, American Legion Post # 3, The Elks Club and The Sons of the American Legion.
For many years he volunteered as a Baseball coach for the Montpelier Farm Leagues, Little Leagues and Baby Ruth Leagues. Harry was a train enthusiast, enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Montpelier Country Club. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.
He and his wife, Adera enjoyed spending their summers on Lake Champlain.
He is survived by his son, Timothy E. White of Montpelier and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military funeral honors will be held in the spring at Berlin Corners Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
