IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harriet
Amidon
January 19, 1921 – May 25, 2024
Harriet Amidon, daughter of Gertrude and Clifford Schutt, was born in Duluth, MN on January 19, 1921. She died on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
She grew up and attended schools in Moorhead, MN and Grand Forks, ND and graduated from the University of North Dakota. After her internship at University of Iowa Hospitals, Harriet was a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps where she met her future husband, Captain Richard Amidon.
Harriet and Dick moved to Montpelier, VT in 1950, members of Christ Episcopal Church. Harriet volunteered at the American Red Cross, AFS, Argus Santa, the Vermont Historical Society, the Kellogg Hubbard Library, and was an avid golfer, skier, biker and tennis player, reader and bridge player.
Following the death of her husband in 1975, Harriet worked at Vermont College, served as administrative secretary at Montpelier High School and worked at the State Environmental Board.
She is remembered for her adventurous spirit, her tenacity, her artistic expression and dedication to family.
She leaves her loving family, daughters Gale Lashua (Dave) of Florida and Debra Runge (Carl) of Williston; grandson Patrick Griffin (Kelly), great-grandchildren Stella, Jack and Alex, step-grandchildren Mike (Sharon), Jon (Kathy) and Dana Runge and their children, Roan, Emma, James, Nick, Lucy and Liam. She leaves her beloved Spanish daughter, AFS student Estrella and her husband Carlos Velasco.
The family is most grateful for the extraordinary care Harriet received at Mansfield Place, her place of residence for the last 5 years and from the University of Vermont Home Health and Hospice.
A family service will be held later this year. Donations may be made in Harriet's memory to Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier, UVM Home Health and Hospice, or Special Olympics VT.
