East Montpelier Gloria Biron, 84, passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2019 at her home in East Montpelier. She was born on October 19, 1935 in Nashua, NH, the daughter of Joseph and Eliza (Mignault) Roy. She graduated from St. Louis de Gonzague High School and later studied real estate and held a brokers license. On July 16, 1960, she married Ernest A. Biron in St. Josephs Church, Nashua, NH. She and Ernie moved to Montpelier in 1963 and owned and operated Ernies Variety Store at the corner of Berlin and River Street for 7 years. In 1971, they purchased C.P. Dudley Store in East Montpelier. They owned and operated, as well as made their home above the store, for 23 years, before selling it to their son, Jeff. On February 3, 1999, she married Leon E. Hopkins Jr. at North American Martyrs Catholic Church in Marshfield, VT. They made their home in East Montpelier. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She leaves behind three children, sons Emile Biron and his wife Cathy of Boxboro, MA, Anthony Biron and his wife Pam of East Montpelier, and daughter Michelle Harper and husband Andy of East Montpelier. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Bradley and Katelyn Biron, Kyle and Molly Biron, Angela and Celine Biron, Sophia and Stella Gardner, and Rose Harper. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 1988, her son Jeffrey in 2017, and her husband Leon Hopkins on November 8, 2019. She was also predeceased by her sister, Pearl Nevens, and her brothers Gerard and Conrad Roy. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at St. Augustines Catholic Church.
