Obituary

Glenna E. Hale

Glenna E. Hale, 90, of Horn of the Moon Road in East Montpelier, passed away in her home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Born on May 4, 1935, in East Montpelier to Guy and Ethel (Parsons) Hale, Glenna was proud to be the first in her family to graduate from high school, earning her diploma from Montpelier High School in 1954.

She worked many jobs throughout Vermont before moving to Connecticut, where she was employed at Stanley Tools until her retirement. Glenna later returned to her beloved family home in Vermont, where she found joy in the beauty of nature and the company of family.

She loved traveling, bird-watching, reading autobiographies, and, fittingly, the daily obituaries. Glenna also enjoyed tag sales, summertime in Vermont, and listening to country and gospel music. She had a fondness for Billy Graham and the British comedy Keeping Up Appearances.

Glenna is survived by her granddaughter Patricia (Joseph) Roy of Clarksville, TN; great-grandsons Zachary, Jack, and Nicholas Roy; great-granddaughter Cirilla Roy; and brothers Arthur Hale of East Montpelier and Charles Hale of Chandler, AZ; sister Dorothy Ciampi of Moretown; niece Amy (Mark) Yantz of Montpelier; great-nieces Alyssa and Allison Yantz, and many extended family members.

She was predeceased by her only son, Virgil Hale, and siblings Reginald Laundry, Velma Defrain, Calvin Hale, Hester Manning, and Nathan Hale.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at North Branch Cemetery in Middlesex. There are no calling hours.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the National Audubon Society or the Arbor Day Foundation.

Arrangements are in the care of Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT.
