DOVER, NH – Gertrude "Trudy" (Gagne) Miccolo, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at St. Ann's Nursing Center in Dover, NH after a brief illness. Trudy was born on May 6, 1924 at the home of her parents, Joseph Emile Gagne and Augustine Delana Pinard Gagne at 182 Berlin Street, Montpelier, VT. She was the fourth child of eight.
Trudy attended St. Michael's School in Montpelier and graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1942. She moved to Washington, D.C. and worked as a Secretary for the Department of the Army as a Civilian at the Pentagon. She graduated from the Stenotype Institute of Washington, D.C. with a degree of Certified Stenotypist, then became a Government Court Reporter.
Trudy moved back to Burlington, Vermont in 1946. She worked as a Legal Secretary for the law firm of A. Perley Feen, then at the Department of Veterans Administration.
She met her husband Michael C. Miccolo when he was attending St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT. They were married at St. Patrick's Chapel in Burlington, Vermont in 1952.
Trudy worked for the Federal Small Business Administration for over 25 years, where she received the Gold Medal for Meritorious Service in 1983. She retired in 1986. Trudy and Mike lived in Montpelier, Vermont for 34 years, until they moved to New Hampshire in 1994.
Trudy is predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Michael C. Miccolo, and twins, who died shortly after birth.
Trudy was the loving mother of six children: Michael L. Miccolo (deceased) and his wife, Janet; Marie L. Lyford of Portsmouth, NH, Beverly K. Miccolo-Cobb (deceased), Louis J. Miccolo of Largo, FL, and his wife, Rose, Jean L. Miccolo of Rochester, NH, and Paula L. Glynn and her husband, Jerry, of Portsmouth, NH. She also leaves 13 grandchildren: Grace (McCormack) Kwasnik, William, Angela, and Thomas Dunkling, Denise Lyford, Jonathan Lyford, Tonya (Cobb) Harrison, Jamie Cobb, Jena Miccolo, Josh Miccolo, Emily Miccolo-Layne, Patrick Glynn and Joseph Glynn, as well as 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She also leaves her four sisters, Madeleine DeRonde, Jeannine Wood, Lucille Collins, and Pauline Goodrich, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Service at St. Ann's Nursing Center, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH, on Sunday, November 28th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Guare and Son's Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, Vermont. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 16 Barre Street, Montpelier, Vermont. Burial at Berlin Corners Cemetery in Berlin, VT. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Ann's Nursing Center, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH.
