Montpelier, VT Gavin Spencer Whitney, 35, of Middle Road in Graniteville died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his home. He was born in Berlin, VT on August 16, 1979, the son of Spencer and Patricia Whitney. He attended Montpelier public schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1997. Following graduation, he attended a number of technical schools including, Vermont Technical College, York County Community College, and Lyndon State College. Gavin worked as a website developer and programmer for a number of companies including Level Nine. He also was the president and principle owner of WDS Inc., a Barre Town company that offered computer technical services. Survivors include his mother, Patricia Whitney of Derby, VT; a sister and her husband, Lynnette and Paul Claudon of Monkton, VT; his Jack Russell Terrier, Jack; Grandfather, Glenn Nicholson of Montpelier; Aunts and Uncles, Frederick and Mary Ann Nicholson of Rutland Town, Marjorie Magoon of Montpelier, Steven Nicholson of Shrewsbury, VT, Gail Frank of Fairbanks, AK, Jean and Steve Purdy of The Villages, FL, and Rev. Ann Whitney of Wasilla, AK and many cousins. He was predeceased by his uncle: Douglas Nicholson, grandparents: Betty and Clifton Whitney, and Mae Nicholson. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow beginning at 8:00pm.
