Berlin, VT Gary R. Muir, 72, of Scott Hill Road died on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Berlin Health and Rehab, after a long illness. He was born on October 16, 1946, the son of Archie and Rachel (Richie) Muir. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1964 and later attended Boston College. He enlisted into the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge. Gary worked primarily in various positions related to law enforcement including, probation officer, Patrolman with Montpelier Police Department, Washington county Sheriffs deputy, and as a guard with the Department of Corrections. On August 28, 1982, he married Cynthia Metcalf. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post #10, the VFW Post 792, and the Montpelier Elks Club. Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle and trike with his wife. Also camping with family and friends made special memories for him. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Muir of Berlin, his children; Pamela Phippin of Maryland, Kim Rochon of Massachusetts, Shawn Muir of Massachusetts, Sheila Brunner of Barre, VT and Stephanie Winters of Williamstown, VT; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Leo and her husband Ralph of Colchester; and his beloved dog, "Zackie" There will be a memorial service and reception held at 11:00 on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT.
