Frank L. "Doc" Sicely, 94, of Calais Road, Worcester, died at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 21, 1918 in Marshfield, VT the son of Oliver Tom Sicely and Minnie (Getchel) Sicely. He attended grade school and high school in Marshfield.
Frank served in the US Army during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater which included the New Guinea & Northern Solomons Campaigns. He was discharged as a S SGT on Sept. 21, 1945.
Affectionately known to many as "Doc", he married Alice Barcomb on August 19, 1942 in Hartford, CT. He was a loving husband and father to their three daughters Barbara, Susan, and Melanie. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
He worked for many years at the Vermont State House with the maintenance division and retired in 1980.
Doc loved playing cribbage and competing at horseshoes. He loved to dance, to hunt and to fish. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture and caning chairs. He was a Red Sox fan.
Doc is survived by his wife, Alice of Worcester; three daughters, Barbara LaPointe of Barre; Susan Pellegrino and her husband, Terrance of Castleton, VT; and Melanie Webster and her husband Michael of Worcester, VT; two grandchildren, Nicolas LaPointe of Dover, NH; Caleb Webster of Worcester; and a step-grandchild, Jessey Webster of Morrisville; one great grandson, Jacob Nicolas LaPointe of Dover, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
Doc was pre-deceased by his siblings, Adeline Collins, Hazel Sicely, Eli, Ralph, Roy, Raymond, Robert, and Clifton Sicely.
Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, Sept. 28th from 6-8 pm at Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick at 3:00 pm.
