IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank R.
Pratt
April 6, 1942 – May 24, 2025
EAST MONTPELIER
Frank R. Pratt, 83, of East Montpelier, VT passed away peacefully in his NC winter home on May 24, 2025. Born April 6, 1942, in Newport VT, the son of Aris (Wing) and Winston Pratt.
Frank graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960, then attended one year of college before pursuing an active career with the State of Vermont. Frank served in the Vermont Air National Guard. Frank had a long career with the State of Vermont. He began as a surveyor for the Dept. of Forest and Parks, then transitioned to the Highway Dept., and finally was an Engineer for Buildings and General Services. He received special recognition from Governor Richard Snelling for his work on the Futures Program initiatives.
After retirement, a trip around Vermont with Frank evoked memories of projects (buildings, bridges and roads) that he had a hand in completing. Frank's love of the outdoors included gardening, sugaring, hunting, fishing, hiking, and building structures. Selfless with his time and expertise, he helped others build homes, camps, and snowmobile trails. Frank enjoyed a challenging hunt, but he truly cherished the time spent with his buddies at deer camp and on fishing trips. Equally important to Frank was his desire to support and improve the quality of life around Vermont. He held leadership positions with several organizations, including Town of East Montpelier (Planning Commissioner and Select Board Member), East Montpelier Gully Jumpers, Canadian Club, Barre Fish and Game Club, and the Mutuo.
Frank is survived by his soulmate of 45 years, Ann Chapman, a sister-in-law Jan Reis (Chris Reis), three beautiful nieces: Anna Reis (Adam Wilder), Gwen Reis Golden (Thomas Golden), Shayne Diller (Ben Diller), several great nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends. Although an only child, Frank's extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins were as close as any siblings or family could be.
Frank was predeceased by his mother Aris (Wing) Pratt, and his father, Winston Pratt.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service to celebrate Frank will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 beginning at 1:00 pm at Doty Cemetery in East Montpelier, VT.
