Frank Carriveau 84 of Montpelier passed away after a short stay at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family and close friends on May 27, 2009. Frank was born in Rochester, Vermont on December 18, 1924 the son of the late Joseph and Victoria (Peloquin) Corriveau.
Frank served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets for seven years as a Boatswain's Mate. He was very proud of his service to his country. Frank married Patricia Rose King of Waterbury on September 5, 1947. After Frank completed his tour in the service they moved to Montpelier where they have resided for over 60 years.
Frank worked for Richard's and Perolini for 27 years as a fuel oil driver and bulk plant manager. In 1973 Frank and his son Michael opened Carriveau's Gulf, Valve and Reconditioning Shop on Berlin Street in Montpelier which they operated together for 25 years. You could always count on Frank for great conversation, prompt and courteous service along with a hot cup of coffee.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his lovely wife, Patricia. They enjoyed traveling the scenic routes of Vermont checking out lawn sales for treasures. Frank loved spending time with his family as these were some of his happiest moments. Frank's grandchildren meant the world to him and he adored each and every one of them. Frank also developed a passion for gardening and his green thumb is evident in the magnificent flower gardens at his home on River Street in Montpelier and his orchards in East Montpelier.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia of sixty-one years; his three sons, Frank B. Carriveau and wife Rachel of Montpelier, their daughter Becky Carriveau of Saugus, Massachusetts; Michael A. Carriveau and Robin Barton of Plainfield, their four children, Justin Carriveau and wife Dana and family of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lisa Carriveau of South Barre, Jason Carriveau of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Chandler Barton of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Greg P. Carriveau of Adamant, his daughter Amanda Sue and his son Joseph (Joey) Patrick Carriveau. His three sisters, Theresa Westover, Lillian Sherman, both of Moretown, and Rita Abare of Essex Junction.
Frank was predeceased by his grandson, Frank Matthew Carriveau in 2006. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Patrick and Henry Corriveau and one sister Margaret Sollace.
All are invited to a graveside service at Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. The family asks that you also join them for a reception and celebration of Frank's life at the VFW Post 792, Pioneer Street in Montpelier following the service at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you experiment with your "green thumb" and plant a tree or flower in Frank's memory or memorial contributions may be sent to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice in care of the Hospice Program at 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vermont 05641.
