Francis C Miller Jr, passed away on July 4th 2025 surrounded by family. He was born on July 12, 1937 in Mary Fletcher Hospital to Ruby D and Francis C Miller Sr of Waterbury VT. He attended Waterbury grade school and High School where he graduated in 1955. He attended Burlington Business School and the University of Vermont. His education was furthered with schooling with the Vermont Army National Guard and the Vermont Air National Guard.
His first job was delivering the Burlington Free Press which afforded him trips to New York City and Washington D.C. While in High School he worked for the First National Stores and those of the Grand Union Company. He also worked at Smugglers Notch in the dining room of the lodge to make extra money at which time he met some very interesting people.
The first full time job was with the National Life Insurance Company; from there he went on to work for the Vermont State Police and a short time with the Vermont Life Magazine. The Majority of his career was spent with the Vermont Agency of Transportation Department with the Audit Department and as the Chief of Financial Management. He retired from here after 35 years of service.
Francis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty J (McAllister) Miller, His parents, Ruby (Kellett) and Francis C Miller Sr, his sister, Oliver Gwendolyn Uhrich (Miller), his step-brother, Ralph Dettmer Divine.
Francis is survived by his children, Jodeen Markle of Coatesville, PA, Heather (husband, William) Malone of Lakeland FL; Kevin Miller (wife, Kathleen) of Murfreesboro, TN; and Kara (husband, Leon) Eggleston of Montpelier VT. Six grandchildren- Logan Honeycutt, Shannon and Kaleigh Miller, Ainsley (Malone) Sipe, Emma and Elizabeth Eggleston. And, one great-grandson, Kaiden Sipe.
Summers were spent in the family motorhome traveling from coast to coast when the kids were young. And, later on at the family camp that Betty and Francis bought and restored at Harvey Lake in Barnet, Vt.
Francis was a member of the Canadian Club, Barre VT for over 50 years, He was an Alumni of the University of Vermont and participated in the MAHA skating Association of Montpelier VT and was a founding member.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in St Albans, Vt at the convenience of the Family.
