West Berlin, VT
Frances "Fran" Ann Goodwin died at her home on the evening on December 22nd, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.
Fran was born on January 5, 1934 in Proctor, VT. She was one of three children born to Andrew Allard and Helen (Janoski) Allard. After graduating from high school in Proctor, she went to Castleton College for 2 years.
In 1955 she met Walter Goodwin and they were married on May 13th 1956 at St. Dominics Church in Proctor. Shortly after, they moved to Montpelier where Walter worked for many years at Verizon. They lived in Montpelier for many years raising their seven children together. Their son Ronald died in 1972. In 1980 Fran and Walter moved to West Berlin where they opened Goodwins Leather Shop.
Fran stayed at home to raise her family while still helping with the business. She and Walter loved to go for car rides, especially to get creemees in the summer. On other car rides, Walter would find treasures at yard and garage sales, which he would then fix up and sell at his own garage sale while Fran worked the cash register. For many years the two traveled to Maine with their kids to enjoy the beaches. While Fran never swam, she loved spending time at the beach. She loved her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and always hosted family gatherings. She was a great cook, but made sure that Walter always helped in the kitchen as well.
Fran leaves behind her beloved husband, Walter, and six of their seven children, daughters: Pamela Hepburn and her husband Kenneth of Northfield, VT; and Cheryl Goodwin-Abare and her husband Charles of Moretown, VT; and sons: Michael Goodwin and his wife Caren of Westfield, Indiana; Walter Goodwin III and his wife Michelle of Northfield, VT; Brian Goodwin of West Berlin, VT; and Greg Goodwin of West Berlin, VT. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary Smith, and brother, Andrew Allard, both of Proctor, VT; her six grandchildren, Chuck, Ben, Jordan, Zach, Cory, and Rachel and 6 great-grandchildren. Fran was also especially fond of her chocolate lab, Cami.
Calling hours for Fran will be held at Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier at 5-7pm on Monday, December 30th. A funeral service for Fran will take place at Guare and Sons Funeral home at 11am on Tuesday, December 31st with her burial to follow at Green Mount Cemetery.
