Ethel Cribley, 93, formerly of Salem Lane, Montpelier and a resident of Mayo Residential Care in Northfield died Friday, June 14, 2013 at Central Vermont Hospital.
She was born on August 26, 1919 in Amenia, New York the daughter of Edward and Ethel (O'Brien) Flanagan. Ethel attended Amenia High School and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Amenia and later graduated from Wood-Puritan School in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1938.
She married Herbert W. Cribley on November 21, 1940 in Amenia, NY.
Ethel worked in Social Services in Dutchess County (NY) for several years and moved to Vermont in 1957. She later worked for the Village of Essex (VT). Some of Ethel's favorite pastimes were quilting, reading skiing in Stowe and Jeffersonville, and spending time with her family.
She is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Ethel is survived by a daughter, Jean Bruce and her husband, Martin of Berlin VT; 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband on February 23, 1997 and a son, David in 1970.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday June 19th at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from Noon until the hour of the funeral service. There will be a memorial reception at the funeral home immediately following the service.
Burial will be at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.
